Day to Day
What is the general schedule of the day?
- 8:30 a.m. – Staff supervision begins outside. There is no supervision before this time.
- 8:40 a.m. – First bell; students line up with their class.
- 8:45 a.m. – Morning classes begin.
- 10:05–10:20 a.m. – Morning recess.
- 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. – Lunch.
- 12:30 p.m. – Afternoon classes begin.
- 1:55–2:10 p.m. – Afternoon recess.
- 3:20 p.m. – End-of-day dismissal.
- 3:35 p.m. – Yard supervision and bus duty end.

Attendance and Safe Arrival
How do I report my child absent or late?
Families should report absences and lateness as soon as possible so the school can maintain accurate attendance records and help ensure student safety.
You can report an absence or lateness by:
- Calling the TDSB Safe Arrival line at 1-833-250-2290, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. You can report an absence for the current day or a future date.
- Using the School Messenger app or website.
If your child will be away for more than two days, please contact the school directly.
If your child arrives after 8:45 a.m., an adult must accompany them to the office to confirm their arrival and sign them in. If your child needs to leave early, please visit the office to sign them out.

What is the School Messenger app?
School Messenger allows families to report absences and receive communications from the TDSB and the school. School messages may also be sent to the email address the school has on file.

School Entry and Visitors
When should students arrive at school?
Staff supervision begins at 8:30 a.m. Students should arrive shortly after supervision begins and line up at their class’s designated meeting area.
What should I do if I need to visit the school office?
Please ring the front-door buzzer once and wait for instructions before entering. All visitors must sign in so the school can account for everyone in the building.
If you need to drop off a forgotten lunch or other item, please buzz at the front door and wait for instructions. The school asks families to avoid regular drop-offs during the day to minimize interruptions to learning.
Everyday Reminders
What should my child bring to school?
The school recommends that students bring:
- A reusable, non-glass water bottle labelled with their name.
- Any personal school supplies they need, such as pencils, crayons, and pencil crayons, labelled with their name.
- Indoor and outdoor shoes.
- Lunch and snacks in a labelled lunch bag.
Please avoid sending toys, trading cards, or other valuable personal items to school. These can be distracting and may be lost or damaged.
What are the school’s lunch and allergy guidelines?
Gledhill is a peanut- and nut-free school. Please do not send lunches or snacks containing peanuts or other nuts. Students should not share food with one another.
The school also practises litterless and boomerang lunches. Uneaten food, packaging, and waste should be returned home for disposal, recycling, or composting.
Please inform your child’s teacher or the school office of relevant health concerns so that appropriate precautions can be taken.
Is the school scent-aware?
Yes. The TDSB encourages students, families, staff, and visitors to avoid scented products and choose scent-free alternatives whenever possible. Fragrances can affect people with allergies, asthma, or environmental sensitivities.
Can students use cell phones or smartwatches during the school day?
The school’s September 2026 newsletter states that students may not use cell phones, mobile devices, or smartwatches to call, text, access the internet, or use social media during the school day, with a stated exception for a medical need. Devices brought to school must be turned off and stored in students’ backpacks.
Students may use the office phone with adult permission and guidance when they need to contact a caregiver. Families should contact the school office for urgent matters.

Start of the Year Forms and Family Information
The TDSB sends Start of Year Forms and the Student Device Agreement to families electronically. Families need an account to complete the forms. The forms include permissions, media-release consents, and medical information.
Where can I find the start-of-year forms?
Online Forms Help – Parent/Guardian Tools
TDSB Start of the Year Consent Forms were sent via email by PowerSchool Enrollment around Sept 1, 2026.
The school also asks families to ensure that all adults authorized to collect their child, including regular and part-time caregivers, are listed in the child’s contacts.
What this means for families
- Families need to create an account to complete the forms. If you have previously used the TDSB enrollment tool to register your child in a TDSB school or program, you can use that same account.
- The online system provides a more robust and reliable experience, helping eliminate delays when accessing and submitting forms.
- Only one set of forms is required per child.
- Families can use the online forms to add or update their child’s contact and medical information, including parent/guardian names, phone numbers, and addresses.

Important contact information: Gledhill PS asks families to include all individuals who are authorized to access or pick up their child, including people who pick up children regularly or on a part-time basis. The school notes that individuals who are not on the child’s contact list will not have access.
