URGENT-Two Skate Day Organizers Needed!‏‏

skatesGledhill is organizing a school wide Skate Day! It’s a day when all students who are interested (Grades 1-6) will walk with their class to a local arena and skate with their classmates. It’s a lot of fun and SACA execs have been working hard to secure a date at an arena and organize some loaner skates and helmets for students who need them. What we need now are two enthusiastic parents to coordinate the before day organization and be present on the day of to help things run smoothly.

The date will be in late March. If you’ve wanted to get involved with the school but haven’t had a chance yet this is the perfect chance to make a big difference. The kids and parents who volunteer all have a great day!

The School and Community Association (SACA) is interested in implementing a hot lunch program at the school. We will be discussing the proposed lunch program at the next SACA General Meeting, scheduled for Thursday January 30th, from 7-8PM in the library (2nd floor). Childcare is available.  Please come and join our discussion!

If you are unable to attend the meeting, please complete this survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LLM3639) to voice your opinion. Questions? Drop us a line at thegledhillguardian@gmail.com.

Gledhill Lunch Program

lunchbag

Are you tired of packing lunches for your child(ren) every week? Are your kids eating the same sandwiches every day? We may have the solution for you! Gledhill’s SACA (School and Community Association) has been exploring the possibility of starting a catered hot lunch program. SACA has been in discussion with Real Food for Real Kids (RFRK). This company impressed us with their commitment to providing quality hot lunches made largely with organic and local ingredients. RFRK will bring hot lunches to the school, and with the help of a lunch coordinator, serve the food “family-style”.  That is, children will bring tupperware and cutlery from home each lunch period to receive their hot lunch. Children who join the program have the option of choosing from a vegetarian ($5 per lunch) or omnivore option($5.25 per lunch). As a start, the program would run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and would be for grades 1-6. Don’t worry if your child has a class during the lunch hour; lunch can be picked up before the class and eaten as usual during the class. RFRK needs a minimum of 50 children to start the program at Gledhill. To determine if there is sufficient interest in this program, please fill out this survey by January 31st. If there is enough interest, we will start online registration. For more information, check out the RFRK website. Still have questions? Drop us a line at thegledhillguardian@gmail.com.
