Wear Blue to Cheer on The Toronto Blue Jays! 💙

Tomorrow, Wednesday October 8, we invite you to wear blue to cheer on the Toronto Blue Jays!

Go Jays Go!!

Orange Shirt Day is Tuesday, September 30

ORANGE SHIRT DAY at Gledhill is this Tuesday, September 30th

It is a day to learn, commemorate and celebrate Indigenous culture and history

Staff and students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt to school on Tuesday, September 30th to commemorate the day. Any orange shirt will do!

Why Orange Shirts?

Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the St. Joseph Mission residential school, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. Hear Phyllis’ story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=E3vUqr01kAk

Toonies for Teachers 💕

Hi Everyone,

Fiona, a gledhill parent, is organizing a staff appreciation lunch for the gledhill staff. “Toonies for Teachers” is an invitation to families to contribute a toonie (or any amount they wish) to help fund a special teacher appreciation lunch. This would be a small but meaningful way for our school community to show gratitude for the incredible work our teachers do every day. All donations would go directly toward providing a well-deserved lunch, perhaps sometime during the last week.

Fiona will be collecting at drop off and pickup Monday-Thursday this week in the school yard! She will have a sign and collect any toonies at drop off/pick up to save you time from having to go in the school to drop them off!

Email thegledhillguardian@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Family Fest Day! 🥳

Family Fest is almost here! YAY – Can’t wait to see you all on this afternoon!

A few things to note:

  • The event is from 3:30 until 7:00
  • There will be a limited quantity of extra BBQ items for sale. They are sold on a first come first serve basis. There are also samosas available for purchase this year (4 for $5).
  • Bracelets can still be purchased on site for $35. Prepaid bracelets can be picked up at the ticket table.
  • For those who pre purchased BBQ, no need to stand in line at the ticket table, just go right over to the BBQ table when you are ready to eat. They will have your order.
  • Almost everything (except the Bouncy Castles themselves) will take cash or tickets this year. Tickets can be purchased with cash or card at the ticket table. Tickets are $1 each.
  • There is limited seating available. Feel free to bring your picnic blankets or folding chairs!
  • Face Painting is available and free! Free usually means a long line, so plan accordingly.

Thank you so much to Parent Council for putting this all together, it’s going to be a fun event! We look forward to seeing you!

For anyone who volunteered (or still wants to!)

There are still volunteer spots that need to be filled. Our hope is that one person from each household can complete a shift of some kind on Family Fest Day. Sign up here

Volunteers: What to do expect on the day

When you arrive, head over to the ticket booth to sign in, get your volunteer pinny then head over to your station- they will be marked with signage.

If you are monitoring a bouncy, here are the rules you need to ensure the kids are following:

  • If you are at a bouncy that has two volunteers, please ensure you are in different spots to ensure safety
  • No Shoes
  • No pushing, hitting, etc.
  • If kids are paying by tickets there are no on and off privileges (use your discretion)
  • If you are listed as a floater, the expectation is to roam around to see if any stations need more support (follow the crowds!)

If you need anything please ask for Jaclyn or Mark! If there is any interest to help out, just let us know at thegledhillguardian@gmail.com

Thank you once again for your time, it’s greatly appreciated to make this even fun for everyone!
