X Movement is back at Gledhill this week with “X Fusion”

The school administration is pleased to have X Movement back at Gledhill this week. Over the past two years, students have participated in their Aussie X and X Dance programs. This week it’s X Fusion!

Each class at Gledhill, JK through Grade 5, will have three sessions of X Fusion this week.

“X Fusion explores self-regulation through a mix of high-intensity fitness and mindful movement. Students are guided to identify their feelings and emotions, choose their desired state, and use physical action to achieve it. By the end, they’ll be equipped with the steps to self-regulate: Feel, Choose, Fuse.”

For more information on the X Movement programs, visit their site at www.xmovement.com

Skate Day FAQs

Next Thursday, March 7th is Gledhill Skate Day for grades 1-5.

Thank you to parents who have already returned their Skate Borrowing forms and Skate Day permission forms.

Yesterday, a hot shot team of parents pre-fitted 57 kids with skates and helmets to borrow on Skate Day.

If your child still needs to borrow skates and/or helmet on Skate Day – no problem- we will still have extra equipment for borrowing at the arena on the day of.

Each class will need 3-4 parents to walk with the children and teacher to Ted Reeve and help with skate tying. Please indicate your desire to volunteer directly to your child’s teacher.

Not sure whether your child’s class is scheduled to skate in the AM or PM session? Or, if you have any other Skate Day questions, please email thegledhillguardian@gmail.com

The Breakfast Club – Gledhill Makes Mornings Easier

The Breakfast Club is open to ALL students in grades 1 to 5.

Did you know that Gledhill students are able to have breakfast at school everyday? We are the Breakfast Club – a before-school program that serves breakfast daily in the Lunchroom from 8:00am to 8:40am. Any student in grades 1-5 may attend. It is not based on any kind of need. It’s for everyone. That means you can drop your kids off at school earlier, and know they will have a nutritious breakfast to fuel their day. Plus, your kids can attend as often as you like – whether it’s daily or even just once a month. It’s a great solution for those early morning work meetings that pop up.

The program is run by a team of dedicated Parent and Community Volunteers, who are passionate about healthy eating – and the importance of a good breakfast to start the day. We always offer smoothies, whole grain cereals, fruit platters and a daily feature item like scrambled eggs and toast, quesadillas or granola fruit parfaits. Students can catch up with friends or play quiet activities until the morning bell rings.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO SIGN UP To register, just email Gledhill.breakfastclub@gmail.com or pick up a registration form in the School Office. We do ask for a small donation to our program. Donations and registration forms can be dropped off in the Breakfast Club Mailbox in the School Office.

WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS

We still need volunteers to join our team, especially for the Clean-up shift from 8:40am – 9:15am. Even just once a month is a big help. Please email Catherine at Gledhill.breakfastclub@gmail.com for more info.

1st Annual Gledhill Skate Drive (Jan 28th to Feb 1st)

Gledhill’s Skate Day has been booked for Thursday, March 7th! It’s a day when students Grades 1 through 5 walk to Ted Reeve Arena with their class for a half day of skating fun. Skate Day is organized and funded by the Gledhill School Council.

It is always our goal to have all kids who want to skate outfitted with skates and helmets so they can have fun with their classmates. How can you help?

  • Consider donating any skates or helmets your kids have outgrown to Gledhill’s Skate Day collection. Next week, Jan 28th to Feb 1st, there will be a bin outside the gymnasium where they can be dropped off.

Students who do not have skates and helmets of their own or were not able to find ones to borrow from a friend will be fitted about a week before Skate Day so they are ready to go!

Other upcoming opportunities to help with Skate Day will include:

  • The collection of skates and helmets needs a good sort. Some helmets need quick repairing and the skates could use a sharpen (anyone have a way to make that happen?)
  • A small group of parents will be needed to help fit kids with skates and helmets a week in advance

Please contact thegledhillguardian@gmail.com if you are able to help with before Skate Day preparation.

Teachers will do the shout outs for parent chaperones on the permission forms sent home for Skate Day. Two or three  parents will be needed to accompany each class to the arena on March 7th. Parents who wish to, can indicate so on the permission forms (no need to email the council)

Calling all hockey and figure skating parents – Skate Day needs you!

Do you have a passion for the ice and want to see the tradition of Gledhill Skate Day continue each year? This is the last year our current Skate Day organizer will be at Gledhill so she needs to pass the torch.

One or two parents are needed to shadow her this year so that they are ready to go next year.

What is Skate Day?

Skate Day is a day in March when all Gledhill students, grades 1 through 5, who wish to participate, walk with their classes to an arena to skate for a half day. The school council Skate Day organizers book and pay for the arena and coordinate transportation and fitting of loaner skates and helmets for kids who don’t have their own. The teachers look after distributing permission forms and getting 2-3 parent volunteers to walk with their class to and from the arena and to help tie their class’s skates.

It’s a fantastic day filled with so many smiles from kids excited to skate with their friends and many who are skating for the first time!

If you have questions about what is involved with Skate Day organization or are interested in shadowing our organizer this year, please email thegledhillguardian@gmail.com

Tonight’s the Night! – 90s Dance Party and Silent Auction

See you there!
