There is an exciting event taking place at Gledhill’s Family Fest…. The Clothing Swap!!!
Here is how it works: First, we need you to look for gently used clothes this weekend, and bring them to the office, You have from Monday to Friday to bring the clothing in. For example you can bring in shirts, T-shirts, shorts, pants, shoes, socks and other clothing. Hint think about all of the seasons, not just summer! Think winter coats, snow suits and boots. Even think of a rain storm!
Second, please bring all items to the main office of the school next week in clear or blue garbage bags. Any items left over at the end of the swap will be donated to charity.
Last, come to the swap during family fest! Even if you didn’t bring anything, you can still take something. We will NOT be exchanging any money at this event.
Thank you very much for supporting this important event! Go Tigers!
Today we will have a bit of a longer announcement regarding D-Day as today, June the 6th, marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
D-Day was a very important battle fought in Europe during the Second World War. The battle was given the code name: Operation Overlord.
D-Day was at the time, the largest coordinated military effort in history. The battles that took place at the beaches of Normandy were a combined effort between British, American and Canadian soldiers to reclaim France from Nazi control.
Although the battle was difficult, the Canadians, Americans and British were successful. D-Day is still thought of by many as the battle that won the war.
We now have a short excerpt from the famous poem For the Fallen, written by Robert Laurence Binyon:
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them.
Let us now take a moment to quietly reflect on the freedom that we enjoy today because of the sacrifices of the men and women who fought for our freedom during Operation Overlord, D-Day and all other military conflicts.
Let us be forever grateful for the freedom we all enjoy every day.
We will now have 30 seconds of silence to honour all fallen soldiers.
Thank you for your respect and quiet reflection, enjoy the rest of your day.

June is Pride Month in Toronto – a month to celebrate the history, resiliency, contributions and vibrancy of the LGBTQ2S communities. As we reflect on diversity and inclusion, a great way to spread the message of “Love is Love” with your kids is through stories!
The Toronto Public Library has compiled an extensive list of books to enjoy with your family – all ready to borrow. Check it out here: https://kids.tpl.ca/readingwithpride
Happy reading, and Happy Pride!
