Highlights from this morning’s announcements:


Read first: “I would like to acknowledge that this school is situated upon traditional territories. The territories include the Wendat, Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of Scugog, Hiawatha, Alderville First Nation and the Métis Nation. The treaty that was signed for this particular parcel of land is collectively referred to as the Williams Treaties of 1923 and applies to lands east of Woodbine Avenue. I also recognize the enduring presence of Aboriginal peoples on this land.”

1. A reminder to all grade 3 & 4 classes: Please escort your students to the large lunchroom at 10:30am for a USchool Ukulele presentation by Melanie Doane. If you have a split class and need someone to supervise your students please send a note or call Ms. Bailey following the announcements.
2. Message from Eco Club: Next week is Bike-to-School Week! If you “get caught” riding your bike you could receive a bike sticker. There are stickers for the first 50 bikes we catch! Thanks for participating.
3. This is an announcement for all students who signed up to help with the student vote. We will have a short meeting today at afternoon recess in room 30. Get informed, VOTE!

A local parent has organized the meeting outlined below to gather feedback from parents about their children’s daily walk to school and what can be done to make it safer. If you cannot attend the meeting you can email your feedback to the council at thegledhillguardian@gmail.com. The Gledhill Council will be gathering all suggestions and emailing it to the organizer in advance of the meeting. Thank you to those who have already submitted their concerns and suggestions.

A big thank you to the students, teachers and accompanying musicians for all their hard work to put on a lovely evening of music.

Also, a shout out to the parent volunteers who served up food on this busy evening!

What you need to know about tonight’s concert:

• Starting at 5:00pm the School Council will start selling a yummy assortment of pre-concert snacks and dinner options. Cash and credit cards will be accepted
• Please remember to bring your reusable water bottles to fill at our water bottle filling station. (As part of our school’s eco-initiatives, bottled drinks will not be sold)
• Doors open to the concert at 6:00pm
• Concert begins at 6:30pm

IMPORTANT: Posting photos and videos online of children other than your own can potentially pose a threat to the safety and security of certain children.

ALL Parents and Guardians are welcome to attend all or part of the meeting and all are considered members of the Council!

• Gledhill School Council Bylaws – vote to clarify that teachers are not voting members. Any other items parents wish to bring forward for changes may also be voted on (Committee would only like to change these once per year but all suggestions are welcome). • Call out for volunteers: Breakfast Club, individual council events i.e. Skate Day and Family Fest
