  1. Tomorrow is your final day to give Mrs Bailey your recorder orders.
  2. Today is the last day for the Marathon of Hope activities at recess. Be like Terry!
  3. Spirit squad – practice today at 11:30 in Room 24
  4. Please come to the gym at noon for grade 5 and 6 slo-pitch
  5. Any grade 4, 5, 6 boys and girls interested in trying out for flag rugby, please meet Mr Webb in the gym at the beginning of recess for a short meeting.
  6. Reminder – there is a School Council meeting tonight at 6pm in the library. Pizza and Childcare are provided!

  1. Did you get a star stamp for the Marathon of Hope yet? Look for the students in the soccer field at recess. You can fight cancer! We can all be like Terry!
  2. Spirit Squad – reminder there will be a Spirit Squad dance practice in Room 24 on Thursday at 11:30
  3. All grade 5 and 6 students interested in Slo Pitch team please come to the gym at noon today. From Mrs Pace

Reminder – School Council Meeting and Election this Thursday at 6pm (Pizza and Childcare Provided!)

Each Gledhill parent brings their own set of unique skills and experiences and we encourage everyone to consider where theirs could be helpful to the council.

Council roles are one year terms, so executive positions which need filling each September are:

Chair / Co-Chair – provides leadership and guidance to the Council, liaises with the Principal and Vice Principal on School Council related matters, and represents the Council at external Toronto District School Board (TDSB) meetings, as required. People are welcome to put their name forth as a single Chair or two people can choose to put their names forth as a Co-chair partnership.

Secretary – provides organizational oversight for the Council, including attending and taking minutes at each School Council meeting, preparing these minutes for draft review, and assisting in the creation and sharing of meeting agendas. The Secretary also ensures that agendas and minutes are shared on the School Council website.

Treasurer – responsible for maintaining the School Council financial records including issuing cheques, making bank deposits, preparing financial statements (including annual statements to the TDSB), and bank account reconciliations. The Treasurer is a signatory on the bank account. (Note: Our outgoing 2015/2016 Treasurer will be available to help anyone interested in assuming this role)

Additional Chair Positions which need filling include:

Parent Engagement Chair, Communications Chair, Fundraising Chair, Grants Chair, Healthy Kids Chair, School Improvement Chair, Volunteer Chair, Parent Class Representatives Chair, Ward and School Advocacy Chair, Eco Chair,  and Governance Chair.

Please join us Thursday, Sept 22th at 6:00pm for our first meeting and election. The meeting will be in the library on the 2nd floor. We will discuss the role of School Council and review our elected positions. At that point, anyone interested in putting their name forward for a council role will be encouraged to do so and voting will take place. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend regardless of whether they are interested in holding an elected position or not.

Pizza and child care will be provided!

Can’t make the meeting? No worries. You can fill out your voting ballot in the school office from Friday, Sept 23 through Tuesday, Sept 27. Results will be announced on Wednesday, Sept 28th.

  1. Don’t forget to take part in the “Marathon of Hope” activity stations around the yard at Monday morning recess. Have fun!
  2. On Tuesday primary choir begins in the music room at 11:45.
  3. Terry trivia starts Monday! Keep working on those pledges over the weekend!
  4. Students in grades 1 and 2, we are running at recess.

  1. Please return your choir permission forms and recorder orders to Mrs Bailey as soon as possible
  2. Staff, there are apples in the office for students. Please send two students down with a basket to pick some up and enjoy.
  3. Grade 1 and 2 runners: in order to prepare for the Scotiabank 5K, please meet Mme Scaife at morning recess to train.
  4. Running club meets tomorrow at 7:45!

  1. Choir forms for both Primary and Junior choir have been sent home this week. Please return them to Mrs Bailey or see Mrs Bailey if you need a form.
  2. The bus leaves at 3:20 – please send students down at 3:10!
  3. Congratulations to our very own Ms Nolan, who won a BRONZE MEDAL, along with her rowing team, yesterday in Rio, at the Paralympic Games.
  4. There is an assembly today after morning recess in the gym.
  5. Any grade 4, 5, or 6 student who is interested in being a Kindergarten helper, please come to the small lunchroom at morning recess.
  6. An important reminder to all students: to take the garbage from your recess snacks, and put it in one of the garbage cans around the school grounds.It was a big mess yesterday. We can do much better!

The Gledhill School Council is a group of parents, school administrators and school staff who are dedicated to ensuring that the children attending our school get the most out of their education and time at Gledhill.

Running Club Starts Tomorrow!

running_shoesWelcome Gledhill Runners!

Running Club starts tomorrow – Monday, Sept 12. Students and parents are invited to join to either prepare for one of the upcoming events or just for the love of running!

Running Club Schedule:

Monday: 7:30 am start – A longer run designed for more experienced runners. Grade 1 and 2 students should only attend Mondays if accompanied by an adult.

Wednesday: 7:45 am start – All runners welcome

Friday: 7:45 am start – All runners welcome

Upcoming Events:

5K Scotiabank Toronto Junior Marathon (Grades 1-6 and parents) – Sunday, October 16 – Grades 1, 2 and 3 must to be accompanied by an adult on the day of the race. Junior Marathon racers are encouraged to run on all 3 mornings of running club.

Cross Country – Early October date TBA (Grades 1-6) – Students in Grades 1 and 2 will practice at morning recess in the schoolyard, Grades 3-6 will practice on Running Club mornings 3 days a week. Note: Cross country is the only competitive school athletic team open to our grades 1 and 2, so it’s a great chance for them to get involved.

Permission forms are out for Running Club, Cross-Country and the Junior Marathon 5K. They can be found in the office, and at the door of room 26 on the third floor.

Daily Announcements – Friday, September 9th

announcementHighlights from the morning announcements:

  1. The UN has declared September 8th to be the International Day of Literacy.
  2. There were auditions for students to do the announcements yesterday (Thursday) at lunch in Room 26. If you are interested please see Mme Scaife.
  3. Running club starts next week!
  4. Have you got SPIRIT? We are looking for enthusiastic grade 4, 5, and 6 students to join the Gledhill Spirit Squad. First meeting is on Monday at 11:30 in Room 24.
