Bikes, books, bouncy castles: Help Wanted!

There’s a little over a month left of this school year, which means there’s now a limited number of times for you to show your Gledhill love and volunteer at the school. Please look at these opportunities and share widely!

Bikes!

Our annual Bike Rally is Thursday, June 8th. The bike rally is a fun and practical way to teach bike safety to the kids. There is a morning session and afternoon session, and parents can do one or both. Please contact Andrea Egan at nichols_andrea@hotmail.com if you would like to volunteer.

Books!

It’s quite possible you’ve already seen evidence of the hard work of the Gledhill librarian, Ms Kopka — in the great books your kids bring home, in the Google slide shows they teach you to make, in the robots they’ve constructed out of Lego, or even in their media-savvy attitudes about the world around them. Ms Kopka is always busy and could really use our help in organizing and shelving books as we come to the end of the year. Please let her know if you can spare a couple of hours in the library. Bouncy castles!

The Gledhill Family Fest is on Friday, June 16, after school. They are looking for a wide range of volunteers. This is always a fun event, and it’s an opportunity for people who work during the day to volunteer a bit too! (Lucky!)

Later, skaters!

…and thanks for a super-fun day! Gledhill skaters took over the Ted Reeve arena today, and whether they were board-hugging newbies or Olympic hockey players in the making, our students skated with enthusiasm and with respect for each other.

A big thank you goes out to all the parents who hauled skates, organized our loaner skates and helmets, and tied a thousand pairs of skates. Thanks also to all the teachers who escorted and supported (literally, often) the students and to our admin who made it possible. And of course, to the Gledhill School Council for organizing the day and the volunteers, and for funding the ice time.

We look forward to another fun Skate Day next year!

Annual Skate Day needs Volunteers!

The tradition continues! On Thursday, March 9, students in grades 1-6 will be walking over to the Ted Reeve Arena and strapping on skates for a fun day of skating with their classmates.

Teachers will be sending permission forms home with specific departure times for each class.

Students are encouraged to bring their own skates and helmets. A limited supply of loaner skates and helmets will be available at the rink.

Volunteers are needed:

To walk with their child’s class to the rink and help with skate tying. Parents are welcome to skate if they choose to! If you are able to accompany your child’s class, please inform your classroom teacher directly.
To help transport loaner skates and helmets to and from the school. If you are able to help in either the morning (8:30-9:30) or afternoon (2:30-3:30) please email Rebecca Green at therebeccagreen@gmail.com

This is always a fun day for kids and their grownups. We really appreciate any help you can give us!

Pizza Lunch DATE CHANGE

pizza-31782_640 PLEASE NOTE that due to a conflict with a school sporting event, the May 5th Pizza Lunch has been CHANGED TO MAY 12th.

If you already ordered pizza for May 5th, your child will automatically be served pizza on May 12th instead. If you do not want pizza on May 12th, please email pizza@GledhillSchoolCouncil.ca and we can process a refund for you.

Winter Concert

snowflake This is a reminder about our fun-filled performances happening on Wednesday, December 14^th, in the gymnasium! The kindergarten concert will begin at 2 p.m. and the grade 1-6 concert will begin at 6 p.m.

In the grades 1-6 concert, students of the following teachers will be performing:

Room 5 -Ms. Meecham; Room 9 -Mme Woods; Room 8 – Ms. Werbin; Room 14 – Mlle Sorin; Room 15 – Ms. O’Gorman; Room 24 -Ms. Ahmad; Room 25 – Mme Bey; Room 26 – Mme Scaife; Room 27 – Mme Martineau; Room 30 – Ms. Chitayat

Students in the Primary and Junior Choirs, Strings, Ukulele Kids and Uschool Ukulele students will also be performing in the 6 p.m. concert.

DROP OFF: Students in grades 1-6 should be in their classrooms by 5:45 p.m. Primary Choir, Junior Choir, Ukulele Kids, Uschool Ukulele and Strings members who are NOT performing with their own class should also be dropped off at 5:45 p.m. at locations which will be posted at entries the night of the concert.

PICK UP: Please take the time to enjoy ALL of the performances in the program and pick up your child only AFTER the final group performs as it is disruptive to have audience members entering and exiting during the concert. Sit back, relax and ENJOY all of their great work! : )

We would love to help others in our community this holiday season, and would greatly appreciate if guests at the concert would bring a non-perishable food item to donate to our local food bank, Centre 55. Thank you in advance!

Kindergarten concert: 2pm
Grades 1-6, ukulele & Strings: 6pm (+ select classes, all other classes will be in the spring concert)
Please bring a non-perishable food item. All donations will be given to our local food bank.
