We hope everyone had a good first day back, we know it can be a lot for the kiddos and the parents but we will all be back in routine before we know it!

What a year it’s been! As the end of school draws to a close, we wanted to make sure we let Gledhill know that we are so proud to share that we have exceeded our goal of raising $15,000 to put towards the yard re-development project at the school! Here is a breakdown of some of the fundraising initiatives from this year:

  • Wine Survivor – $1,259
  • Holiday Concert Raffle – $860
  • Marlies Game – $1,936
  • Pizza Lunches – $5,504
  • Movie Nights – $1,195
  • Family Fest – $4,000

We released a letter campaign in February that brought in $6,560 through online donations. This campaign will remain open and can be visited by clicking here if you haven’t already made your contribution!

Gledhill’s Parent Council wants to give a huge shoutout to East Toronto Coffee (Oak Park/Danforth) who through their support of our school are contributing just over $2,400 to our school. They have been incredible partners this year and we can’t wait to continue to work with them in coming years.

Thanks to the generosity of the Gledhill community this year, the 2023-2024 Parent Council will have the opportunity to support many incredible projects in the school community. Working with Gledhill’s new principal, hopefully the school will continue to see us as a resource to help enhance the school. For all further updates to the timeline for the yard redevelopment project, please expect those from the school itself. The expectation is that the first step, the pavement work, will be completed this summer.

We are losing some incredible volunteer parents and each one of them deserve a big shout out:

Jennifer Reynolds has been our parent council treasurer since 2016! She is taking a well-deserved retirement from this role, but we appreciate the guidance and leadership she’s shown to our finances over the last 8 years!

Lesley Hunter has co-lead the pizza lunch program this school year, but has also been an active volunteer in a variety of areas for many years. With both of her kids now moving on from Gledhill, her willingness to pitch in is going to be greatly missed at Gledhill!

Tara Schmidt has led our communications portfolio for the last few years and did an outstanding job with keeping this community informed of all of the goings on both inside and outside of the school. Tara was also the brains behind this year’s very fun holiday fundraiser, Wine Survivor! 

We are going to miss Jenn, Lesley and Tara immensely in their positions! Keep your eyes peeled in September for all available positions and consider participating to help continue to make Gledhill better.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered this year in whatever capacity it may have been. It is beyond appreciated by each and every one of us. A very special shoutout to those who took on specific roles this year. You all stepped WAY up this year – THANK YOU!

Save-the-date, Gledhill parents – the Legion fundraiser we all know and love will be back on Saturday, October 28th. Book those babysitters NOW.

❗❗ Family Fest Update – Rain Impacts ☔

Hello Families, the team has been working really hard to come up with a plan for Family Fest with the increasing certainty of rain in the forecast. Family Fest was always a rain or shine event and WILL go forward with a few modifications:

  • We will start the fun at 3:30pm and go until 7pm
  • The BBQ will be fired up and serving pre-orders in the yard, we will have limited additional BBQ items available for sale on the day of the event
  • Loads of games, DIY Photo Booth, Bake Sale, Ice Cream Truck and X-Movement will be going on and move inside the school if needed
  • Inflatables cannot be used if it rains so the team has decided to delay the inflatables to the school-wide Play Day the morning of June 28th (refunds are not available but the kids will still get the fun)
  • Bracelets will no longer be distributed
  • Volunteers will still be needed to help us pull this off, we will reach out if needed via email

Given the weather tomorrow we are delaying bracelet pickup on Monday June 12th, below are the new dates/times. Thank you for your understanding

As a reminder: if you didn’t purchase a bracelet yet, this is another opportunity to buy them for $25 cash as the cost day of will go up to $30.

  • Tuesday, June 13th from 8:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m & 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 14th from 8:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Where:

  • Back school yard, on the walkway between the two fields.

Today is the last evening to order your BBQ food for next week’s Family Fest! As we are using M&M for the BBQ, we need numbers in advance of next week. You will not be able to purchase bbq items at the event itself, so reserve now. Please login to SchoolCash Online to make your purchases before 11:59 p.m. tonight! If your kiddo doesn’t go to Gledhill Jr, then please email us with your order details- thegledhillguardian@gmail.com

Next week’s event will have bouncy castles, the Ice Cream Truck, a Bake Sale, outdoor games, an X-Movement Performance, a Photo Booth and MUCH, MUCH more! This is a can’t miss Gledhill event and we want to see the ENTIRE community out celebrating this incredible year.

Do you want to avoid the lines on Family Fest Day and pick up your child’s all-you-can bounce bracelet? We have three times to do so. See locations and times below. This is also a great opportunity for any new Gledhill families to come and purchase their all-you-can bounce bracelets. These are cash-only opportunities.

Pre-Purchase Items for Family Fest NOW!

Hello Gledhill Community:

Gledhill’s Parent Council wants to remind you to pre-purchase all-you-can bounce wristbands and BBQ tickets to Family Fest. The deadline to do buy is Wednesday, June 7th at 11:59 p.m. This can’t miss community event is happening on Thursday, June 15th from 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Gledhill and is open to all families, even if your kiddo doesn’t attend Gledhill Jr. Public School.

All-you-can bounce bracelets are $25 in advance. BBQ packages are $7 and include your choice of main (hamburger, hot dog or veggie burger), a bag of chips and a drink. The cost of the bracelets will increase to $30 on the day of the event. There will be some bouncy houses reserved exclusively for younger kiddos to enjoy!

WE ARE USING M&M MEATS AGAIN THIS YEAR AND NEED NUMBERS IN ADVANCE OF THE EVENT. If you are planning to be at the event, please purchase your BBQ tickets through School Cash Online.

All proceeds will support the yard redevelopment project.

Family Fest Check List

Hello Gledhill Families & Community!

We are just two weeks out from Gledhill’s Family Fest. Can you believe we haven’t hosted this large-scale event since 2019? We can’t wait to get back to it! This is a community event, even if you don’t have a kiddo at Gledhill Jr PS, you and your family are still invited to join in the fun!

We thought it would be helpful to provide you with a checklist for the day. Simply read below, follow along and your family will be all set!

  1. Pick a volunteer time slot using the Google sheet
  2. Buy a wristband – good for all inflatable rides at Family Fest. Login to your child’s SchoolCashOnline account to purchase*.
  3. Pre-purchase your BBQ items by Wednesday, June 7th at 11:59 p.m Again, login to your child’s SchoolCashOnline account to purchase*.
  4. Tell your children that they can look forward to lots of entertainment at Gledhill’s Family Fest. Tell them to talk to their friends about it, too 😉
  5. Buy ingredients to bake treats for the Bake Table
    • Bake delicious treats for the Bake Sale and drop to school on the day of. More specific details will be shared shortly, but you can sign up here.
  6. Tell everyone you know about the upcoming Gledhill Family Fest! Even new families who will start at the school in Fall 2023.
  7. Attend Family Fest on Thursday, June 15th from 3:30 – 7 p.m., eat yummy food, play games, meet your community and have a great time!
