What a Night!

A message of thanks from Andrea Rourke, organizer of the Silent Auction:

Hello all!

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it takes an army to put on an auction! While I don’t want to forget anybody, I really must acknowledge certain generous and talented individuals who put in many hours before the auction in order to guarantee its success.

I think we can all agree that the artwork from the classes was outstanding! It caused a few friendly bidding wars and raised a lot of money for the school. There was a very hard-working and talented art committee, comprised of Andrea Egan, Crystal Hadfield and Melissa Perretti. These ladies met several times, their emails were flying, supplies had to be purchased and of course they helped out with each of the classes. Thank you also to the teachers for giving of their class time and to many who provided the art supplies themselves.

Many, many thanks to Jessica Schmiedchen (godmother of auctions past, trusted advisor and live auctioneer), Crystal Hadfield (yummy food coordinator and planner) and to Renee Cullen (Bid sheet babe and 50/50 raffle queen). Rosie Jeffares  and her talented team transformed the gym beautifully. They were there first, left last and working with them was truly a pleasure.

Thank you to everybody who donated to the auction and solicited items from local businesses. A lot of work is involved in this and it is much appreciated. Thank you to everybody who advertised, made food, iced drinks, greeted, counted money, monitored tables, moved stuff and then moved it again.

Thank you to the gentlemen: Andy McLachlan on sound, and for jumping through the hoops and over the hurdles necessary in order for us to have the auction where and how we wanted it. Thank you to Peter Schmiedchen for the great music! Thank you also to Pod Cullen and Gary Nassif for letting me boss them around for a day!

The goal of the auction, of course, is to raise money for our many SACA programs. It was wonderful, however, to also witness the heartwarming support from our community both before the auction and on Friday night. Many Gledhill parents and staff came out,  as well as our friends, families, local business owners and politicians!

Once again, many thanks. Happy holidays!

Andrea Rourke
