Back to School Shopping

Hello Gledhill families!

As we start to shop for back to school supplies, please keep in mind an important initiative one of our Gledhill parents is undertaking.  This parent does charity work when she visits the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines by giving back to less fortunate children. Her family and close friends donate items that she ships over and then hands out to local school children who are in desperate need of every day items. This year she’s trying to reach more children and is looking for donations of school supplies and non- perishable food (see list below).

Please consider buying some extra supplies when shopping for your own Gledhill student to donate to this worthy cause.  There will be a bin in the office to drop off your donations once school begins.

List of items:

Brand new school supplies such as,

Pencils

Pens

Markers

Crayons

Coloured pencils

Getting Ready for Back to School

Now that the long weekend is behind us it’s time to start thinking about getting our kids ready to return to school (Tuesday September 3rd).

As you start preparing for lunches, indoor shoes and other miscellaneous items that could be misplaced it’s a good time to think about ordering labels for your lunch containers, water bottles, hoodies, jackets, backpacks, shoes and anything else that you can add a label to.

Did you know that you can support the school council by ordering your labels through Oliver’s Labels?  It’s a win-win situation, you get to keep track of your child’s stuff (hopefully reducing lost items) and a portion of the purchase will support the school council.  If you’re interested take a look at the link below:

Communications Wrap Up and a BIG Thank You!!

As we near the end of the school year we wanted to send a BIG thank you to Andrea N. for her years of support for the school council.

Andrea has held many positions on the council but most recently led the Communications Committee, ensuring the daily announcements and reminders of school events are delivered to families. Her dedication ensured you don’t forget about pizza lunch, skate day or Spirit Day.

As this is Andrea’s last year on the council, we wanted to say a BIG thank you for all you did for the council and school.  We’ll keep the communications flowing.

We’re not done yet though, as we wrap up the year, we’ll keep the posts coming and make sure to keep everyone updated for the start of school next year.

Have a great summer and remember to mark you calendar for the first council meeting on September 19th where we will form the new council and start planning for the new school year.

Pizza Lunch – That’s a Wrap!

There is little that compares to the moment you realize that you don’t have to make lunches because the next day is PIZZA LUNCH!

For that, we say THANK YOU to our long time Pizza Lunch organizer Lexi, our Volunteer Coordinator Andrea A. and their dedicated team of pizza lunch parents.

Today was the last pizza lunch of the 2018/2019 school year and we are losing  about half of our regular volunteers as their children graduate from Grade 5.

Helping at pizza lunch requires a 45 min commitment from 11:15-12:00 on a Friday.  It is a fast, fun and rewarding way to get involved. If you are intererested in being on the email list for next year’s pizza lunch shout outs for volunteers, please email gledhillvolunteer@gmail.com

You do not need to commit to all pizza lunches – some parents do one or two  a year- all help is welcome!
