  1. Hanukkah, the Jewish “Festival of Lights,” also known as the “Feast of Dedication,” begins at sunset on the 25th day of the Hebrew month, Kislev. In Judaism, Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days to commemorate the victory of Judah the Maccabee for religious freedom and rededication of the Temple in 165 BCE, and to celebrate the power of God and the faithful members of Judaism. To commemorate the rededication of the temple a menorah[1], the Hanukkah lamp, was lit. The oil was only supposed to last for one day, but it miraculously kept the menorah lit for 8 days. Today, the seven candles of the menorah are lit one day at a time to signify the eight days of light that shone during the first rededication ceremony in 165 BCE. Spinning a dreidel (a spinning top) is traditionally associated with the festival.
  2. A huge Gledhill welcome to all the schools visiting for the grade 5 girls basketball tournament.

Silent Auction “Thank You”s

On Friday, November 23th 2018,  we held our second annual  DANCE PARTY and SILENT AUCTION fundraiser.  This event was an opportunity for our parents to get out and have a fun night while at the same time doing some important fundraising for our school!

Because of the outpouring of support from individuals, local businesses and organizations, we were able to fund raise almost $5000 for our school programs!

Thank you to everyone who attended the event and supported our school.

Thank you to the fundraising team (Chantal, Marni, Melissa, Scarlett and Alex) and other parent volunteers who helped make the night a success.

    2. Here at Gledhill we don’t like litter and waste. It’s harmful and it impacts animals, plants and people. 2 weeks ago, Rm 29 conducted a waste audit in the big lunch room. We noticed that many of us are using the green bin properly by putting in apple and pear cores, bread and other items. Sometimes you my not be sure what to do with your lunch waste and that’s OK. Please check the sign by the green bin to make the right choice. Thank you for your cooperation!
