Information Meeting: TDSB’s plan for Gledhill to go K-5

A reminder to all Gledhill parents of the information meeting regarding the change of school boundaries and starting grade for middle school for BOTH English and French Immersion stream students.

The Pupil Accommodation Review Committee (PARC) information meeting will be held on Monday, April 27th in the cafeteria at D.A. Morrison (271 Gledhill Ave.) at 6 pm.

Gledhill students are affected in a number of ways:

  • change the grade range of Gledhill to a JK-5 school
  • introduce French Immersion track at D.A. Morrison for grades 6-8 starting in September 2016
  • all Gledhill students (English and French) would go to D.A. Morrison from grade 6-8

What do you think about this plan? Attend the meeting, get informed and share your questions/concerns/support/opposition with our school trustee, Sheila Cary-Meagher.

For more information about the meeting, and some background on the PARC process, read this PARC meeting letter – PARC information meeting DA Morrison

Gledhill School Council Bylaws

Gledhill School Council is pleased to announce that the School Council Bylaws were approved at the last Council meeting (on March 10) and are now posted on the Gledhill Guardian website under the “Council” section. The Bylaws are also available directly here (Word format) or here (PDF format).

The bylaws provide direction to ensure that the Council is operating effectively and that the Council actions are aligned with Ontario’s legislation specific to School Councils.

The most significant change outlined in the bylaws document is related to Council membership.  All parents and guardians of children attending Gledhill are now considered members of Gledhill’s School Council and can therefore attend and vote on items at any meeting (therefore please feel free to attend any or all meetings!).

If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to email thegledhillguardian@gmail.com.

Thank you for everyone who volunteered their time to help develop the bylaws!

School Council Bylaws

The Gledhill School Council has developed bylaws that will guide the actions of the Council and will support current legislation specific to school councils in Ontario. Recently, a committee of five representatives from the Gledhill School Council was struck to oversee the development of the bylaws and provide input.  The bylaws were also developed based on current legislation (Ontario Regulation 612/00) as well as school council bylaws from other local junior public schools. A draft version of this document is available here (in Word) and here (as a pdf).

We welcome all Gledhill parents to read the attached draft bylaw document and to comment or ask questions in advance of Tuesday March 10, when the document will be voted on at the School Council meeting planned for that date.

Please send any comments and/or questions to thegledhillguardian@gmail.com.

Thank you

Movie Night – Book of Life

Come out to Gledhill’s next movie night on Friday February 20th for a screening of Book of Life! Doors open at 6:00 and the movie starts at 6:30. Popcorn, pizza, even a door prize.

This movie night is a fundraiser for Gledhill’s Breakfast Club. Gledhill’s fantastic Breakfast Club has been offering hot breakfasts to our kids for the past six years. On top of helping our kids to start their day well nourished, happy and able to concentrate, students learn about healthy food choices, try new foods and build community. Enrolment is up and budgets are stretched thin this year, so they need our help! Come out to support this great cause while enjoying some family movie fun.
