Family Fest 2016

This year’s Family Fest was another fantastic event with lots of families, great weather, excellent food, a 50/50 draw, expanded bouncy castle selection, dance and Tae Kwon Do performances, a photo booth, a barber and, of course, face painting. We even sold over 100 Gledhill water bottles!

Thank you to all of the parents, students, staff and community members that came out to meet up with friends in support of Gledhill. What a great way to end the school year! Special thanks to the masses of volunteers who stepped up to take on a shift at a booth or game. We couldn’t have done it without you! Of course, this event was only possible because a small group of parents who dedicated themselves (and a lot of their time) to organizing Family Fest this year – brainstorming ideas, planning events, contacting vendors, preparing activities, soliciting businesses for prizes and, of course, recruiting amazing volunteers.

It was a rewarding experience, one which we hope you will consider helping out with next school year.

Have a great summer. We look forward to another fantastic year starting in September.

Walkability Summit

Councillor McMahon is hosting a Ward32 Walkability Summit 2016 on May 30th at Bowmore P.S. Councillor McMahon is an advocate for active transportation, and encourages everyone to get out of their cars and to take to the streets by foot or by bike. This event is designed to allow speakers and attendees to engage in discussion about the benefits and barriers walking to school with an aim to launch ‘walking school buses’ in our ward. In addition, Chief Planner at the City of Toronto, Jennifer Keesmat, will join the event to deliver a keynote speech.

If you are interested in attending the event, please RSVP to councillor_mcmahon@toronto.ca or on the Facebook event page : https://www.facebook.com/events/1083790914996490/

Looking forward to seeing you on May 30th!

News from the Breakfast Club

Jennifer Scaife, the new Breakfast Club Coordinator, is looking for volunteers and hopes that some of us might be willing and able to do so. The Breakfast Club relies heavily on two components; volunteer participation and financial contributions.

The Breakfast Club’s volunteer participation has been steady, reliable, and hardworking, but the schedule is becoming difficult to fill out, as volunteers’ kids graduate, work schedules change, etc.

We need your help. If you are interested in helping out, or in learning more, the following flyer provides all the information you will need. Please contact JenniferScaife@RoyalLePage.ca for further information or to express an interest.

Parents’ Night Out!

Thank you to all of the Gledhill parents, friends and staff who came out and made Friday night’s Trivia Night and Silent Auction a big success. Our trivia host, Terrance Balazo, kept us all on our game with some challenging trivia. Awesome job Terrance. Terrance gave us a shout out on twitter …

A big thanks to the many Gledhill parents and community businesses that donated items and services for the Silent Auction. It was a popular auction and, of course, helped Gledhill’s School Council raise funds for some of the programs we sponsor at the school. Finally, thanks to the organizing team (Jill, Lisa, Melissa and Andrea), volunteers and school administration for taking care of all of the logistical, behind the scenes preparation (this event couldn’t have been an adults only, licensed event without a bit of planning!)

Silent Auction Items

We hope you are planning to attend the Trivia Night and Silent Auction event this Friday February 19 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Last year’s event was a lot of fun and we’re hoping that this year is even better. We have collected many great items for the silent auction including …

  • Tragically Hip memorabilia,
  • tickets for Kinky Boots,
  • tickets for Young People’s Theatre,
  • classes with Theatricks (Drama with Jeff),
  • Arbonne gift baskets,
  • jewelry,
  • and much more!

Please donate!  We have been very fortunate to receive many donations from parents already and we truly appreciate the generosity of our parent community. We ask if you have already offered a donation that you bring the item to the school’s office by Thurs. Feb. 18. For anyone who has not yet donated, but may be able to, please email us at gledhillschoolcouncil@gmail.com.

We are looking forward to a great event and we hope to see many of you on Friday!
