Highlights from the morning announcements:

  1. There will be running long jump and standing long jump practice at morning recess. Meet Ms. Werbin at the long jump pit. Thank you.
  2. Those students who have been spoken to regarding shotput this year are to meet Mr. Webb outside his office at morning recess. All track permission forms need to be handed in to Mr. Webb right away.
  3. Badminton Club is today in the gym at 11:45. Group 2, please meet Mlle McPherson outside the gym.

Highlights from this morning’s announcements:

Important Note: The next Pizza Lunch is Friday, May 12. (This is a rescheduling of the original date of May 5)

  1. There will be a Running  Long Jump and Standing Long Jump practice at morning recess. Please see Mrs. Werbin at the Long Jump Pit.
  2. 200m Runners meet Mrs. Pace outside at the track for morning recess.
  3. Due to the TSO trip, Eco Club will be cancelled today.
  4. Thank you to all the  boys soccer team athletes who made our tryouts. The list of those who made the team will be posted by the end of the day.
  5. A message from Eco-Club: This week, Eco-Club members conducted a waste audit in the lunch rooms. We are happy to see that our school is improving and is doing a great job keeping waste down. The results show we are using the right bins for composting, recycling and garbage and we are recycling more. One small thing to work on is making sure that the metallic wrappers go in the garbage can instead of recycling. Thank you for all your excellent efforts!

Highlights from this morning’s announcements:

  1. A reminder that the Painting Club will be meeting today at 3:30pm in Rm 19.
  2. SCAT soloists are asked to come to the Music Room at morning recess unless it is an indoor recess.
  3. 200m runners, please see Mrs. Pace in the gym at morning recess.
  4. The Yearbook meets today at lunch.
  5. Eco-Club members are invited to meet today at the beginning of lunch in Rm 6.
  6. Tomorrow is the Primary trip to the TSO! Wear your favourite hockey sweater or team shirt if you have one! Bus leaves at 9:30am.
  7. All Triple Jumpers are asked to meet Ms McAleese at the pit at afternoon recess today.
  8. Attention Primary Chess Team who participated in the tournament at Alvin Curling PS . If you played as a member of “Primary Team B” that day, we need to see you in the main office after the announcements today.

Tonight’s School Council Meeting – Reminder and Agenda

Tonight’s School Council meeting starts at 6:00pm for housekeeping items and 6:30pm for regular items.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend all or part of the meeting and are considered voting members of the Council.

This is a great chance to hear about and get involved with our school!

Note that pizza and babysitting services are also provided.

Attendance: 14 parents (Quorum formed), Principal McAleese, Vice Principal Curry, Mme. Bey, and Ms. Ahmad

Meeting Discussion and Decisions

Housekeeping Items

Approval of previous meeting minutes – February 23, 2016 (APPROVED)

Fundraising updates:

  • Family Fest is scheduled for Friday June 16; we will need many volunteers to make the day a success!
  • Dance-A-Thon – we will need someone new to organize next year’s event (it is a key fundraising event for our school!)

Ward Rep updates:

  • At the last Ward meeting:
    • Examples of fundraising events held at other schools were provided; ideas and information was shared with the Council and Fundraising Chairs
    • An update was given about research done to assess young children’s ability to meet age-appropriate developmental expectations at school entry; this update will continue at the next Ward meeting (note that all parents are invited and welcome to attend these meetings)

Main Agenda Items

Principal’s and Vice Principal’s updates and discussion:

  • The school is currently working with the Board (TDSB) to determine number of students, classes, and staff allocations for next year; it is anticipated that there will be two additional classes next year
  • Next year there will be a double graduation with the Grade 6’s and Grade 5’s both graduating to DA Morrison
  • Need to determine how to spend remaining Pro Grant funding; suggestion to focus on Mindfulness session (other ideas were also provided; e.g., yoga, managing anxiety, etc.)
  • Investigating expansion of new yoga program for next year
  • Birchmount Track and Field day is May 4th
  • The school is registered to participate in Jump Rope for Heart; date TBC

Next Council meeting is Wednesday April 26, 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

D. A. Morrison presents “The Lion King”

Several of our Gledhill classes were treated to the dress rehearsal of this amazing production today. The cast and crew include many of our Gledhill Alumni. It is an outstanding show! Check it out on Thursday (come to the Gledhill School Council Meeting on Wednesday )

Daily Announcements – Tuesday, April 25

Highlights from this morning’s announcements:

  1. Gledhill’s track and field athletes will be competing in a Track Meet at Birchmount Park C.I. on Thursday, May 4th. (More details to come)
  2. Grades 4, 5 and 6 -400 and 200 metre runners please meet Mme. Scaife every morning at 7:45am on the track. Grades 4, 5 and 6 Relay runners meet at 8am. If you have another practice at the same time, please go there and join us as soon as you can.
  3. There will be a Running Long Jump and Standing Long Jump practice at morning recess today. Please meet Mrs. Werbin at the Long Jump pit.
  4. The Decoration Committee begins today after school for those who have returned their permission forms. See you in the Music Room at 3:20pm.
  5. Badminton Club is today at 11:15 in the gym. Today is group 1. Group 2 will play Friday plus a make up day in the future.
  6. Primary choir is today. Only a couple more rehearsals left! Don’t miss choir please!

Notes to Parents:

  1. The next School Council Meeting is this Wednesday, April 26th at 6:00pm in the school library. As always, child care and pizza are provided!
  2. Friday’s Dance-a-thon was great fun! It is not to late for your child to bring in Dance-a-thon forms and donations

Students:

  1. Uschool Ukulele is today! See you at 11:30.
  2. The Running Club had it’s last run on Friday. Thank you all runners.
  3. There will be a Triple Jump practice for all students who were selected to compete at Birchmount. Please meet Mrs McAleese at the back pit at afternoon recess today.
  4. A message from the Eco-Club – Thank you to all those classes who participated in our school Clean-Up on Friday. You all did an excellent job!
  5. Grades 4, 5 and 6 students who are on the relay team, please meet Mme Scaife at 7:45am every morning outside. If your other events are at the same time, please go to your other event and come back to relay the next day.

Daily Announcements – Friday, April 21st

Highlights from the morning announcements:

  1. A message from Eco Club: Did you know tomorrow is Earth Day? It’s a great day to help clean up garbage at Gledhill and get involved in other Earth Day activities in your neighborhood! Teachers, it’s not too late to sign up for the schoolyard tidy today—the sign up sheet is in the staff room with gloves and bags.
  2. Today was the last run for the Gledhill Running Club. A huge THANK YOU to all runners and their families for supporting running at Gledhill.
  3. All Grade 4/5 boys trying out for soccer please be ready for Tuesday, April 25th at 7:45am. Players need soccer cleats and shin guards.
  4. There will be a master list posted outside the phys. ed. office by the end of the day today for all students who have made Gledhill’s track team. Practice schedules will be set by event coaches.
  5. Today is the Gledhill Dance-a-thon! If you forgot to bring in your Dance-a-thon form and money by today, you can still do so next week.

Daily Announcements – Thursday, April 20th

Highlights from this morning’s announcements:

  1. Tomorrow is the Dance-a-thon! A reminder to bring in your pledge forms and money raised. All students will participate in the Dance-a-thon regardless of the amount of money they raised.   2. Teachers – A message from Eco-Club. Please sign your class up for the Great Gledhill School Yard Clean Up happening tomorrow. Sign up in the staff room where you can also get your gloves and bags. Thank you -Mme Leclerc and Mme. Roshi.
  3. The library is closed today due to professional development.
  4. Junior Students – Makerspace has been cancelled today due to a meeting.
  5. Forest of Reading Students – Today is Voting Day! If you have read 5 or more books please come to the library to cast your vote. Bring your lunch with you. Ms Lennie & Ms Kopka.
  6. There is a social committee meeting today at lunch in Rm 27.
  7. A reminder that there is fruit in the office, so please help yourself.
