Walkability Summit

Councillor McMahon is hosting a Ward32 Walkability Summit 2016 on May 30th at Bowmore P.S. Councillor McMahon is an advocate for active transportation, and encourages everyone to get out of their cars and to take to the streets by foot or by bike. This event is designed to allow speakers and attendees to engage in discussion about the benefits and barriers walking to school with an aim to launch ‘walking school buses’ in our ward. In addition, Chief Planner at the City of Toronto, Jennifer Keesmat, will join the event to deliver a keynote speech.

Gledhill Family Fest – Friday, June 17 – Now Hiring!

GledhillPS-cropped

This year’s Family Fest is set to be an amazing day of fun for the whole family! The bouncy castles, climbing wall, photo booth and live entertainment are booked. A new addition this year will be an unlimited “Bounce and Games” wristband!  Our Family Fest Lead, Melissa, has done the hard work to to book all the main events and now we are on to Phase 2 of planning.

We have people looking after the Marketplace and the Bake Table but, in order to make this day a success we are looking for leads to help with the following:

International Foods: Our previous lead has promised pass on her words of wisdom to someone interested in coordinating the set up of this popular spot.

BBQ: The BBQ is rented and we need someone to lead our team of hamburger flippers!

Games: This year the games will be part of our “bounce and game as much as you want” wristbands. We need someone to explore the family fest room, choose and set up the games on the day of.

Publicity/Social Media Guru: We are having posters designed but, we need someone to cheerlead on our Facebook page, post posters around the school and make sure we have a presence on the morning announcements leading up the event.

Our volunteer coordinator will be scouting volunteers for the different stations so, no need to recruit for your posts.

Please contact nichols_andrea@hotmail.com if you are interested in one of these positions!

Thank you everyone for your continued dedication to our school!

Bike Rally

The annual bike rally at Gledhill is coming May 17th! Kids, join us for a funpacked morning of bike safety and maneuvering exercises. You will practice signaling, stopping, turning, zigzagging, and other skills that will make you a supersafe biker.

Parents, please let us know if you can volunteer on one or both sessions. Biking experience is useful but not essential. We need new volunteers this year – this is a great way to get involved in your child’s school and your community!

If you would like your child to participate in the bike rally, please fill in the attached form and send it back to your child’s teacher by May 12th. It can also be found on the Gledhill Guardian’s Events page or the Forms page.

News from the Breakfast Club

Jennifer Scaife, the new Breakfast Club Coordinator, is looking for volunteers and hopes that some of us might be willing and able to do so. The Breakfast Club relies heavily on two components; volunteer participation and financial contributions.

The Breakfast Club’s volunteer participation has been steady, reliable, and hardworking, but the schedule is becoming difficult to fill out, as volunteers’ kids graduate, work schedules change, etc.

We need your help. If you are interested in helping out, or in learning more, the following flyer provides all the information you will need. Please contact JenniferScaife@RoyalLePage.ca for further information or to express an interest.
