Healthy Families Resource Night

 

A healthy school involves a holistic approach where school administration, teachers, parents, students and community agencies work together to create an environment that will have a positive impact on a child’s health and learning.

On behalf of the Gledhill Mental Health Committee and with the support of Toronto Public Health, and the Continuing Education Department of the TDSB, we will be showcasing a number of Community Agencies that support children, parents and families.

Door prizes, refreshments and child care for younger children will be provided.

Examples of community agencies that will be present include:

Between 5:30-6:00 PM, Stephanie Lopez, a Toronto Public Health Nurse, will speak about Mental Health, Academic Stress and Parenting Challenges.

Finally, come Sign-Up for free parenting programs led by Toronto Public Health this winter at Gledhill:

  • 􏰀Kids have Stress Too (two night, 2 hr./session scheduled for January 20 and 27, 2015)
  • The Incredible Years [for parents of children 2-8 years of age] (This is a 10-14 week 2 hr. parenting program once/week beginning in February 2015. Topics include: play, praise, rewards, limit setting, problem solving and handling difficult misbehaviour, feeling alone and stressed)

Parent Teacher Interviews

As interviews continue this week, many will have their child’s progress report interview this evening or Friday morning. This handy flyer, produced by People for Education, provides some guidelines for parents for getting the most out of your interview time.

French Immersion Information Night

fi_kidsGledhill will be hosting a French Immersion Information Night, Wednesday, November 12th, 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the school library. Come out and learn about the French Immersion program at Gledhill including program expectations and application timelines.

Since Gledhill’s French Immersion program starts in Senior Kindergarten, this information night is geared to parents of Junior Kindergarten students.

The TDSB’s annual ‘Parent Involvement Makes a Difference Conference‘ is an excellent opportunity to learn more about supporting your child and supporting your school. It takes place next Saturday, November 15th.
