What’s on this week?

Tuesday

  • Gledhill School Council Meeting – 6-7:30pm – in the library. Please note that, unfortunately, we were NOT able to secure child care for this meeting. Children are still welcome to attend and may play quietly in the library or sit with their parents. Pizza will be provided.

Thursday

  • Gledhill’s 2nd Annual School Wide STEM Fair -12:35pm – Parents are welcome to attend (see poster below)

 

Highlights from this morning’s announcements:

Read first: “I would like to acknowledge that this school is situated upon traditional territories. The territories include the Wendat, Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Mississaugas of Scugog, Hiawatha, Alderville First Nation and the Métis Nation. The treaty that was signed for this particular parcel of land is collectively referred to as the Williams Treaties of 1923 and applies to lands east of Woodbine Avenue. I also recognize the enduring presence of Aboriginal peoples on this land.”

  1. Track and Field practices today: Triple Jump at AM recess, 400/800/1500m with Mrs Pace at 12:00, Standing Long Jump with Mrs. Pace at PM recess and Relay at 3:30 with  Mr Webb.
  2. Slo-Pitch tomorrow at 7:45 AM with Mrs Pace and Mr. Webb.
  3. Congratulations to “E” in Rm 14 and “E” in Rm 22 who knew that Antonio Vivaldi’s  “Four Seasons” is performed by violins. Please see Mrs. Bailey for your prize. The new question is now posted in the music room and will be up for two weeks.

ALL Parents and Guardians are welcome to attend all or part of the meeting and all are considered members of the Council!

Location: Gledhill School Library, 2nd Floor

Pizza will be provided! NOTE: There is no babysitting but kids are welcome to come and play quietly in the library or sit with their parents.

  • Round table introductions & overview for new comers
  • Marisa and Lindsay will present the findings from the winter parent engagement survey
  • Gledhill School Council Bylaws – vote to clarify that teachers are not voting members. Any other items parents wish to bring forward for changes may also be voted on (Committee would only like to change these once per year but all suggestions are welcome).   • Call out for volunteers: Breakfast Club, individual council events i.e. Skate Day and Family Fest
  • Chair Updates – Fundraising, Movie Night, Parent Engagement, Communications, Grants, Treasurer, Healthy Kids, Volunteer Coordinator, Ward and School Advocacy, and Eco

Dance-a-thon was a success!

A HUGE thank you to Gledhill Dad, DJ Rhino, for donating his time, his lights and his tunes for our kids today. We saw some amazing moves on the dance floor!

Thank you also to our parent volunteers and our dedicated team of parent organizers.

If you still have last minute donations that didn’t make it in to the school today –  don’t worry! They can be brought in on Monday.

  1. Congratulations to the Junior Choir who did a phenomenal job last night performing at Massey Hall! We were very proud of your performance and representing Gledhill so positively.
  2. Spirit Squad: there’s a meeting Monday at 11:30 in room 24.
  3. A reminder to 80 and 200m runners of our practice at morning recess.
  4. Shot putters: we will meet outside the gym office at afternoon recess for our practice.

All proceeds from the Dance-a-thon go toward Gledhill School Council programs and initiatives such as Scientists in School, Drama with Jeff and Skate Day.

  2. Today is the last chance to pick up tickets for Massey Hall. Please remind your parents to do so by 4pm. We will then meet at 5:30pm in your concert attire to get on the  bus for this evening’s concert. Make sure you are ready and on time. Thank you! We will also have one last rehearsal today at lunch in the Music Room.
  3. Eco-Club will meet today at 11:30 in Rm 6.
  4. The remaining two slo-pitch positions will be posted today. (Mrs. Pace)

  1. Junior Choir students need to remind their parents to pick up their Massey Hall tickets in the Main Office before 4pm THURSDAY!
  2. Are you ready to boogie?! Gledhill’s Dance-a-thon is this Friday. Students, make sure to bring in your pledge form and any donations you have and give them to your teacher by Friday at the latest. See you on the dance floor!”
  3. Girls Slo-Pitch – there is important information posted for you in front of the gym office.
  4. Boys Slo-Pitch – due to the grade 5 boys missing the first tryout, there will be a another tryout Thursday at 7:45 am. (Mrs. Pace)
  5. Could the Standing Long Jump track team please meet Mrs Pace at the south sand pit at 10:05am?
  6. All Relay members, please meet Mr. Sexsmith at our courtyard baseball diamond at 12 pm.
  7. Shot Put members can meet Mr Webb at his office before PM recess and 80m/200m members at 3:30pm outside the gym office as well.
