Council News and Updates

Happy New Year and welcome back from the holidays!

A highlight of Council activities for the last two months of 2015:

The Gledhill School Council, spearheaded by Melissa Hillier, organized ‘Gledhill Marlies Day’ in November and over 400 people attended! It was a great event to raise money for the school and have fun. The Gledhill Choir did an amazing job signing ‘Oh Canada’ and Gledhill beat a record by having the most choir members sing at a Marlies event. Some of our Gledhill kids also had the opportunity to welcome the hockey players onto the ice in ‘the tunnel’ and we got to skate on the ice after the game. The event also raised over $2,800 to support Council-funded initiatives. We thank everyone who came out and supported the day.

The QSP magazine fundraiser was also held. If anyone is still interested in buying magazines, they can do so all year by ordering online at: http://www.qsp.ca/login/StudentInfo (you can find this link anytime on the right side bar of the this blog).

The Council also hosted a Coffee and Conversation event in December where we were able to connect with parents and enjoy our morning coffee. Thank you to Sam Kazak for organizing the event.

A pizza lunch was held in December for the school. It is a favourite event for parents and students and raised over $500. Thank you to Lexi Etinger for organizing and for all the parents who volunteered to serve the pizza.

Council-funded programs such as Drama with Jeff and Scientist in the School have also been continuing in the classrooms.

Looking ahead, the Council has the following planned:

  • Friday January 8 – Coffee and Conversation in the morning behind the school
  • Friday January 15 – Movie Night
  • Tuesday January 26, 6pm to 7:30pm – School Council Meeting (all welcome!)
  • Friday January 29 – Pizza lunch for students
  • Friday February 19 – Trivia Night / Silent Auction (we are looking for donations for the silent auction – please email: thegledhillguardian@gmail.com)
  • TBC – Family potluck

Thank you to all the parents who volunteer their time to make these events a reality. Also thank you to our school administration and our teachers for their continued support and assistance!
