• A message from the Eco Club: Winter is really here! This is the time of year when Canadians use a lot of energy which can cause extra pollution. This week we will share some energy saving tips which could also save you money!
• Yesterday’s tip: Close the door and keep doors closed unless someone is going in or out at the moment.
• Today’s tip: Using less electricity creates less air pollution. At home you can save energy by turning down your thermostat and wearing a warm sweater and toasty slippers. You will save money and help keep the air cleaner!

• Students in Grades 2-5 interested in singing the national anthem at the Marlies Game on Feb 10th are asked to come to the Music Room at afternoon recess today.

• Eco Club would like to recognize the following “How to have a green holiday” ideas:

“K” from RM 25.: Instead of giving an object, you can make a donation in someone’s name such  as WWF or Greenpeace. – Great Idea!

“W” from RM 14: You wrap gifts in cloth or fabric that you already have. If you use ribbon it could be used for your hair after. – Such a nice idea!

“K” in RM 24: Use energy and electricity wisely such as cooking a big batch of food in the oven. – Thanks!

You will all receive a hot chocolate for your great ideas!

Note to parents:  Shane, our parent volunteer, who this year has graciously taken over Movie Night organization, needs our help. He has a small group of parents who help him regularly, but needs to expand this pool a bit. Helpers are needed each movie night to set up chairs and mats (5:30 – 6:00), sell tickets, pizza and popcorn (6:00-7:30ish) and clean up (about 8:30 depending on when the movie ends). Please email Shane via thegledhillguardian@gmail.com if you can help. Upcoming movie nights are tomorrow, Dec 14th, Feb 22nd and April 26th.

2. Hi Gledhill, Eco Club is accepting ideas for “How to green your holidays!” Drop off your ideas to the shiny green and blue suggestion box in the office. If your idea is read over the announcements, you will receive a nice cup of hot chocolate in your classroom. Drop off your idea soon and make sure to add your name and room number. Thanks!
3. Thank you Gledhill! The toys and mittens in the front hall look great! Please keep the toys  and mittens coming until December 19th. Many thanks from Centre 55.
4. This year we have decided to collect gently used sports equipment that can be put to use by someone else. Balls, gloves, skates etc that are still in good condition or that you maybe have never used and are around your house can be brought in and placed in the bin outside the gym office. The GAC (Gledhill Athletics Club) are deciding how best to use the items. Thank you. – Mr Webb
