Parents, as you are aware, SACA works hard to raise funds for specialty programs for our children such as Drama with Jeff, Jungle Sport, U Can Do It, Scientists in the School, etc.  We’d love to hear from you about these and other potential programs.  Please email us at thegledhillguardian@gmail.com or drop a note in the Feedback folder on the SACA bulletin board in front of the office. Ethnocultural Community Network

What is the Ethnocultural Community Network?
The Ethnocultural Community Network (ECN) is an umbrella group for ethno-cultural communities within the TDSB.  The mandate of the ECN is to work with ethno-cultural communities and the TDSB staff to develop and support the implementation of a plan of activities that will enhance the successful integration and academic success of children of parents of the ethno-cultural communities represented in the Network in TDSB schools. The ECN volunteers & support staff meet several times a year to discuss issues of interest to parents from ethno-cultural communities whose children may not be succeeding in school as well as they should be and those who are succeeding. Discussion topics include:

Settlement issues
English as a Second Language
International Languages and Cultural Programs
Academic Success for Minority Students
Other topics of interest to the Network
For more information, visit the ECN website at http://www.tdsbecn.ca/ or e-mail ethnoculturalcn@gmail.com

The next meeting of the ECN will be held on Tuesday, November 27 starting at 6:30 with a light dinner.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.

We provide childcare.  Translation can be provided if requested.

Do your kids like to cook or bake?

Mine does.  And while it is sometimes a Zen exercise on my part to supervise her baking, I find that she is far more likely to eat something that she has had a part in creating.  She also learns basic reading and math as we go, so it’s really win-win.  And now, there’s an actual opportunity to win: the EatRight Ontario Kids Recipe Challenge.  Here’s what we’ve got for you from our trustee, Sheila Cary-Meagher:

EatRight Ontario and Dietitians of Canada are working together to get kids excited about healthy eating and creating kid-friendly healthy recipes. The EatRight Ontario Kids Recipe Challenge is open to Ontario students in grades 1 to 6. Prizes include gift certificates for iPods, gift certificates, cookbooks and more.

NB* Deadline for submissions is December 16, 2012.
