1. A huge thank you and congratulations to all Gledhill staff and students for participating in Gledhill’s very own Winter Olympics on Monday. We are ready to cheer on Canada together! (Mrs. Pace)
2. A huge thank you to Mrs. Pace  for organizing such a fun afternoon yesterday. Only 2 more days until the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.
3. Free Hearts for Hailey and other Valentines will be on sale today at morning recess outside the music room.
4. Boys basketball tournament is tomorrow all day at Gledhill.
5. Attention Daycare students going to today’s field trip. Please check your backpacks to make sure you have a lunch or pick up a lunch from your daycare lunchroom before the trip.
6. Girls Volleyball – Thursday’s practice is CANCELLED. Next practice is Friday morning at 7:45am.

1. Today is the first day of our fundraiser “Hearts for Hailey”. Please come buy your Valentines outside the music room at morning recess. Teacher volunteers are asked to come as quickly as they can. Thank you for your support!
2. Hey everyone! Wednesday is Winter Walk to School Day. If you don’t already walk to school each day, talk to your parents to find out if you can walk to school on Wednesday. Maybe you can arrange to meet some friends along the way and enjoy some fresh air together!
3. Today is Olympics Day! Teachers, please refer to the schedule. Have a great afternoon!
4. Folkfest is at lunch today. Please bring all of your things to go outside. A teacher will pick you up from the lunchroom or daycare at 12:00.
5. Congratulations to D in Rm 25, G in Rm 26, J in Rm 17 and R in Rm 24 who knew that the dynamic term for performing music very quietly is pianissimo. Please see Mrs Bailey for your prize. the new question is now posted in the music room and will be up for two weeks.

Have a MYSTICAL Monday!

So many great things are happening at our school! The School Council would like to introduce a new series of posts we are calling “Spotlight On:” They are designed to introduce new and old parents alike to the programs and events going on and in some cases, how we as parents, can get involved. The first of our series is on The Gledhill Breakfast Club!

“Spotlight On”: Gledhill’s Breakfast Club

What makes Gledhill a great place to be for both students and families? A strong sense of community, a friendly welcoming atmosphere, and knowing that we are all looking out for each other.

If you want to see these things in action, come down to the Breakfast Club any morning of the week. You will see 40-50 kids eating healthy food, chatting with their friends and the adult volunteers, helping clean up, and generally getting a great start to their day. Every child is welcomed, regardless of whether or not they can contribute financially. If you are lucky enough to come on a morning when program director Jenn Scaife is there, you will see this unconditional acceptance in her warm smile and the genuine affection she has for each child.

This program is funded by generous contributions from parents, Student Nutrition Program, Food Share, and the community including ValuMart, whose support is greatly appreciated.

Money alone, though, is not enough to keep the program running; volunteers are the backbone of the Breakfast Club. We have a dedicated core group of family and community members who give a bit of their time each week to prepare food or clean up. The volunteers enjoy their time together as much as the kids do and if you join us, you will find the time flies by as you make new friends and catch up on school news.

However, there are currently not enough volunteers to keep the program running the way it should or could. This incredible program is in desperate need of your help. Please have a look at the shifts below and consider how you could fit in 30-40 minutes once or twice a week, or even once a month. We’d love to have you join us.

1. Count down to Korea! Gledhill School, we are having our very own Winter Olympics on Monday, February 5. Remember to wear red and white to school! (Mrs. Pace)

3. Girls volleyball, please check the practice schedule outside of Rm 20. Also, remember to take your copy of the tournament info (Mlle. McPherson)
4. Gym 1 and 2 are in the basement due to the ball hockey tournament.
5. Two Helping Hailey fundraisers start next week!:

• You can buy RED hearts to send to your friends Monday, Wednesday and Friday at morning recess. They are $0.50 each or 3 for $1. Buy them, take them home and decorate them and return them to the mailbox outside the office! They will be delivered on Valentine’s Day! Pink valentines will also be available for free to decorate and send home to Hailey to let her know we are thinking of her.
• And, on interview night, Thursday, Feb 15th, Gledhill will light up the night and do a walk in support of our school mate Hailey. Buy a glow stick on February 12th, 13th, or 14th at 3:30 outside the main office. on interview night, buy them in the gym at 6pm. $2 per necklace or 3 for $5.
